Day 5, Part 2

I walked up the escalators to the upper level. I figured the young West is being held in one of the side offices in the Mresti station. And sure enough, there is a terminal and a locked door.  If Vance and crew knew I am there, they did not react. I entered the password I got from Karl into the terminal, and the door unlatched. And indeed, inside was a young man, lounging on the bed, slightly scruffy looking young man. Probably not much older than myself, but I am no longer sure how old I am. The young man sat up, his expression glum.  "Who are you, and what do you want?" "I'm Roger Wilco. You are Ian West, I presume?" "Yes." "Evan King sent me to look for you. You're one tough kid to find." "Yeah, I guess I should have known this would happen. He's gonna send someone after me sooner or later. " "Did you... always had that hunger?" "No... I was about 10. Some wastelander was going to steal our

Day 5, part 1

I woke up with best sleep that I can recall. While the bed is kinda lumpy, it's mine, and the door even locks. And I'm sure Wadsworth the handy bot has a few tricks against intruders. Dogmeat was up and I put some water in a dish and we shared some food from the stash in the fridge, which even comes stocked with a few bits of food. We'll need more, but we salvage plenty. Any way... Need to find the kid, and the Family seems to be the only clue. And Murphy said they've been seen at Mresti train yards. I dropped off any extra loot in the locker, told Wadsworth to guard, and left with Dogmeat. Mresti Trainyards turns out to be directly east from Hamtilton's Hideout, and almost directly due north from Springvale school.  We had to kill a couple more raiders when we walked by Kaelyn's. It was almost noon when we arrived at Mresti train yard. The fences enclosed areas with old railroad cars. The only thing interesting is the two rail tunnels. I took the door

Day 4, Part 3

Walked south from Arefu.  Saw a power substation in the distance. Decided to check it out first. It was quiet, nothing there. A tower had fallen and crushed part of the fence. I did find a NC Quantum which I kept.  There's a ladder that lead me up to the roof of the compound, where I found a BBQ, but it's long cold. I scanned the area, and noticed a deathclaw in the distance, but it moved away before I can engage it. I wasn't sure I can hurt it much any way. Spotted a shed from the roof of the power substation to the southeast. Checked it, and found another NC Quantum. Howe interesting. Head back north to the Northwest Seneca station to check in with Murphy. "No, I don't know anything about The Family.  Barrett, do you?"  Murphy adjusted his glasses, and went back to his work on the chemistry set. Barrett, the assistant / bouncer, shrugged, "Maybe." I checked into my stash... and handed over two Sugar Bombs. "Here, they're on me.&quo

Day 4, part 2

I am glad to see the sun after walking out of Vault 106. It had been a depressing visit, as I had to kill many crazed survivors. I am glad I am finally out of there. I saw a building to the north, two stories. May have been a Bed and Breakfast once. I decided to check it out. Before I even got close, I got fired at. Raiders! I returned dove behind some rocks and took cover. There seems to be only two or three firing, but I know there would be more raiders approaching with melee weapons. I decided to wait for them, but it seems Dogmeat has other ideas. Before I can call him back, he's off. I jumped up after him, guns already seeking target, as the raiders and their own dog concentrated on Dogmeat. Time started to slow as adrenaline kicked in along with VATS targeting.  One guy has a flamer. He had to go first. Two bursts for him, then a third burst for the guy with the assault rifle. Rat-tat-tat, rat-tat-tat. The flamer guy's head busted into pieces, and he collapsed. His bu

Day 4, Part 1

I woke up and stretched from the bed in the Common room in Megaton. It seems Dogmeat was already up, but he's waiting patiently by the bed. I gave him a pat and shared some food and water. Then it's the armor and the pack back on, while I put my armor and backpack back on, and ready my weapons. It's time to get to work. Today, I'm heading northwest toward the town of Arefu. It's supposed to be pretty easily recognizable, but it seems pretty far. I walked by Springvale and cut through the rocks. I thought I saw a door in the middle of the rock, but I suspected it was a vault. I have a package to deliver. I continued northwest, only finding occasional beasts like vicious dogs and molerats to slay. Actually found a baby molerat, but not even Dogmeat want to play with it. Dogmeat just whined. Kept on walking, and actually saw... almost nothing, until I came across another sign, that it had to be a  vault. It even has the sign "fallout shelter" on the o

Day 3 Part 3

After clearing Minefield, and nabbing a few frag mines, and regrettably taking out Arkansas too, Dogmeat and I walked back to Megaton. We didn't see much along the way. It was late afternoon when we finally got back. Even Dogmeat is started to look tired. We shared a little water, then I headed up to Moira's. "Awww! Cute doggie!" Moira greeted Dogmeat with a fur ruffling. Dogmeat barked in pleasure. Moira then turned to me, "I have just the thing! Hold on..."  She ran into the back, and came out with two items, and I was surprised.  First item is a leather armor... But for a dog!  I am quite impressed, and I said so. And the second item is an item pack... But again, for a dog. yes, now Dogmeat can share some of my load.  Impressive!  I paid Moira in caps, and the prices are quite reasonable.  I traded her the rest of the items I don't need, stuff like raider armor and so on, plus weak weapons like .223 pistol, as well as surplus food and so on. I don

Day 3, Part 2

I started walk north east toward Regulator HQ. I crossed the bridge north of Springvale school, and kept walking, mostly retracing my steps. I came upon a few raiders at the river's edge, and dispatched them easily. Their throwing spears are no match to my bullets.  Found a scavenger on the way, but he had very few caps. It was almost noon when I arrived at Regulator HQ.  Had to shoot some vicious dogs on the way. I salvaged the dogmeat. Sonora didn't have much to say other than good job for the fingers I had collected. Regulators do not have a communications network per se and often some of us simply never reported in again. Apparently a few were lost to the west, which is supermutant country. I asked if she's heard of the scrapyard, and she said there's something to the east southeast of us. I thanked her and started walking. On the way, I found a wastelander corpse with a note about sorry, train car, and secret stash inside half of a bus. There's a corpse o

Day 3 Part 1

After clearing out Springvale School, I tool all the loot back to Megaton. Moira actually ran out of caps, so I had to spread my loot around to the Doc and to Moriarty's. But any cap is good, right? Moira tried to make me her assistant in writing her "Wasteland Survival Guide". Basically, it means I'm getting shot at. However, it sounds like it can save some people. And that's good, right? I agreed to visit Super Duper Mart... purely on a trial basis, of course. I walked over to Super Duper Mart, which is to the east. the "parking lot" was mostly empty, except a wastelander and some vicious dogs. I killed the dogs but not before they killed the wastelander. I stripped them all of valuables, and emptied both Nuka-Cola machines. I decided to store the loot in one of the machine for now. I slowly moved in. There was a raider patrolling atop of the shelves with some plants between aisles. Interesting. The whole place is dark. Guess raiders don't be

Day 2, Part 3/3

The buzz through town was electric, as the news of me having saved Simms had spread among the inhabitants. People seem to treat me with more respect now. I left Megaton and headed north. Springvale is just ruins, and I went inside Springvale Elementary. It was rather sad looking, skeletons everywhere, book strewn all over the place, desks placed haphazardly. And yes, there are even children's skeletons. I crouched and slowly moved from room to room, finding little if any loot worthwhile. Then I heard voices... Raiders. I edged around the corner and the motion must of drawn their eye, because they both noticed me and charged. One brandished a pool cue, the other a pistol. I almost laughed, as I aimed my hunting rifle and fired. The range was so close I can't really miss. The bullet went through the pistoleer's left eye, and took off most of his head. The pool cue wielder, was still 3 yards away when I shot him through the heart. He fell face down and did not get up. I

Day 2 Continued

I walked back to Bethesda West and went through the building again, stripping all raiders of their gear and armor, and mutual repair. I also picked up any other loot lying I around I collected earlier. Took me a while to walk back and forth between there and Megaton, but I was able to get enough caps to repair damages to my duster and my preferred weapons: Wanda, hunting rifle, and 10mm SMG I picked up earlier. However, by then, it's already past noon. I heard from the eatery that there are raiders to the North. They said last time they attacked, Lucas put a bullet through the leader's skull, which is why they fled and hadn't been back. I decided to head up to the saloon to see if there's any truth to that. Moriarty's is dark, as most bars are, and I was somewhat surprised to see a ghoul behind the bar. I had seen them on my travels with uncle Owen, and even shot a few feral ones myself, but I didn't know Megaton had one. I was contemplating that when a woma

Day 2 (actual date unknown)

After walking out of Bethesda West with my most valuable loot, I continued walking southwest. I found a place to cross without getting myself wet in the Potomac. No critters or humans bothered me. I ended up walking into the little town of Springvale... Right into a couple more raiders. Fortunately, I was ready for them, as they announced themselves by yelling "Fresh meat!"  But when you pit baseball bat against hunting rifle, rifle wins. The other guy has a revolver, but he barely winged me before I put a round through his skull. After looting them, I can see Megaton due south, and I headed that way. Turns out the entrance is on the south side, and I had to jog around it. I got to the south side, and noticed there's a guy up on the crow's nest but he doesn't have a gun. I wonder why?  This is close to raider hideouts, and I guess they have to deal with raiders every once in a while. Anyway, there's a Protectron!  I've heard of those, but never seen on

Day 1 continued (actual date unknown)

Anyway, where was I? Heading southwest from Wheaton? Uh... right! Anyway, I kept walking, and walking, and came upon two tall buildings. There are some fortifications indicating it's probably held by raiders. But there was nobody outside. I found the main door, which was labeled Bethesda East. I walked in with my hunting rifle ready, and there was nobody in the lobby except a few radroaches. I explore and looted every desk and see, and did find more than a few junk items, which I left in place. I had to climb to the second floor before I run into any raiders, but they are dumb. I shot one in the head, switched to combat shotgun, then shot the next one when she came running in, and the shotgun took her leg off. No one else came. I stripped her combat shotgun to repair mine, then stripped them out of armor and whatever else useful. I also did a little repair on my hunting rifle. There was a room with an obvious pressure plate trap in the middle. I walked around it carefully... It

Day 1 Continued (actual date unknown)

Any way, where was I? Right, we came out of the butcher shop... I mean "hand free clinic" at Farragut West Metro and three Talon Company mercs bushwacked me, except I killed them all with Dogmeat's help. I looted the armor off of them. By picking and choosing the pieces, I was able to make a mostly intact set. I nabbed all the fingers, and pocketed all their weapons. I ducked into Grocer next door to loot some foot, and watch Dogmeat play with the radroaches a bit before heading out. My loot tote is pretty full, so I headed back toward Megaton... Oh, you want my backstory. I said I fell asleep at Regulator HQ, right? Okay. slept, and woke up next way, and walked outside... Right into a radscorpion. It was attacking the Brahmin. Shot it down, but it was a truly WTF moment. In the corner of my eye, I saw some movement in the distance to the south. I snuck closer, and saw it was a raider camp based on some former army stuff. I think it said Wheaton or something. The truc

Day 1: Meta

NOTE: Meta notes are notes about the actual gameplay, not about the lore or the fictionalized account. Wanda was cut content from FO3 but put back in by Custom Beginnings. It was lying next to the knife throwing target in Regulator HQ. Custom Beginnings lets you pick various careers as a start and I chose Regulators. It starts you off with a laser pistol, about 30 rounds of ammo, and a regulator duster, nothing else. The rest is up to you.  I made up Uncle Owen for the lore.

Day 1 (actual date unknown)

As I stepped out the door of the clinic someone shouted "there he is!". By reflex I pulled the combat shotgun and crouched, then I winced. It's those darn Talon mercs again. And they are pretty well armed... But I am better. I switched to my trusted Wanda, the customized assault rifle I picked up at Regulators a while back, and send a burst into the closest threat... the merc with a combat knife charging me. Dogmeat jumped into action and is engaging 2nd merc with a combat shotgun, also rushing in. The third merc with the laser rifle is taking potshots at me, but from a bit further away. My regulator duster is good, but not laser proof. I wait until the knife merc got closer, than put a burst of 5.56 into his nogging with a bit of help from my VATS. He goes down, half of his head missing. I took a few laser hits and I can feel the scorch marks, but I need to help Dogmeat. I sprinted to the bus shelter which provided cover from the laser, then targeted the shotgun me
